Most people have heard of the terrible twos, but why does it happen? Recently,I have been reading What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell. In the introduction, he explains it. When we are two year sold, we begin to realize that even though we like something, that does not mean that somebody else does too. As a result of this, we begin to do rebellious things to test this theory. We then observe how people react and come to the conclusion that other people think differently.
However, this is not the only reason we go through them. Sometimes it is due to our frustration at not being able to do something. We have not yet learned all of the skills to do something, and get frustrated. Along with this, we usually could not communicate what we were trying to do either. We were still learning and the fact that we did not just know things was very frustrating.
So how can we prevent these tantrums and rebellious acts? Sometimes just helping the child will calm them down. Most of the time it just depends of the kid and what type of parent they have. In general, kids are still learning and they will act controversially in order to do so. Do you remember your terrible twos? If you were a parent, how would you deal with this?
