"There will be people that say you can't make a living out of something you love to do. But are you really living by not doing it?" That is a quote by Olan Rogers and it is my favorite of all time. Probably because it has so much meaning to me. All my life I have been trying to do big things but I've always been shot down by the real world and other people. This quote gives me hope. It tells me that is may be hard to do something all of your life because of financial reasons, but it shows me that I shouldn't get too caught up in it all. It might create some challenging problems to solve, but if it makes me happy, why not try? You can't buy happiness, you have to find it for yourself and soak up every little bit that you can get, because you never know when it can go away. Whereas with money, you can find ways to earn it by doing what you love. If it were art, you could sell your pieces. But if you hate your job, every morning you are going to wake up and wish you would've tried to do what you love, but there's almost no way of going back. Overall, go after your dreams because it will make you happier to strive for them than if you strive for money.
I made another set of flashcards here.
In the article "MSU Could be Tobacco Free Yet this Year" they talk about the efforts that are being taken in order to get rid of smoking on campus and what people think about it. The delivery on getting their point across is done very well because they follow the rhetorical situation and make good use of audience, purpose, and subject.
The article is very direct and you can easily understand who the audience is. This is because they write it in an educational and mature format. This being said, it is not over complicated since it is for the general public and not Harvard scholars, but they don't dumb it down so much that you are being explained everything like a child. For the most part, they do a good job of keeping the level of maturity the same. Another reason the article had the qualities of the rhetorical situation is because the purpose is very clear. The article is written about how smoking has just been banned on campus and it is telling the people what is happening. For that reason, the purpose is to inform the public on what is happening which they did a good job of doing, The subject is also very clear. Not once does the author go off onto a different topic. He always is talking about the smoking ban in campus. He also keeps on the subject even though he adds in new information, all of it is about the same topic. The author is never sidetracked so the subject is very clear. In general, the article was very well done. The author's use of the rhetorical situation was phenomenal. Overall, the author used the elements of audience, purpose, and subject very well. |
