"Don't worry! You'll be fine! You won't hit the tree!" Those are the last words I can fully remember before everything went blurry and my head went spinning. It was labor day, 2009, and I was at my cousins' house celebrating. At one point we got bored and decided to go outside and make the rounds. First we would go to the trampoline, and then the rope swing. These are two of my favorite thing so when we decided to go out, I was way too excited. After we had jumped for a while, we decided to go to the rope swing. Soon after, I was on the swing being pushed by my cousin, Jenny. All was going well until she joked around and shouted, "You're going to hit the tree!" I panicked and tried to get off but she quickly told me she was joking, Only it actually happened, I hit one tree, and then another. It was almost a pinball game as I crashed into one tree, bumped into another, and then was stopped by my cousin. In fear I struggled off the seat only to fall on my head. After that my vision began to blur. Treetops became blobs and faces began to be unrecognizable. I tried to run back to the house only my sense of direction was flawed and I struggled to get there. But I finally made it and went home. That night I was puking and had to go to the ER. Luckily, it was only a minor concussion, but I still had to miss my first day of fourth grade. If only I had gotten off the swing, my first day of fourth grade wouldn't have been missed.
Here are some flash cards I made in response to what I have learned in Lit.
I believe the article "Great Lakes Wolves Returned to the Endangered List" is fairly well written. This is because it has three elements of the rhetorical situation. I believe it has the elements of audience, purpose, and subject.
I think this because with the people it is directed to, it achieves that they would want. The audience is directed towards people that want information on whether or not wolves are endangered and if they can be hunted. Along with this I think that the purpose of the article is to inform the public on the subject which I think is done very well because they give you all the facts you want to know without the extra unnecessary information. They also give quotes that shows the view of other people in order to show how other people feel about it. Another thing I believe that they display well is the subject. As I said before, they focus on one subject, they don't add in any other information that doesn't apply to their main topic. Overall, I believe the article is well written because the author stayed near to how rhetorical situations are formed. I think this because he keeps in mind what the audience wants, why he is writing the article, and what the subject of his writing is. The excitement of Christmas was almost too much to contain. The pine tree had been in our house for so long I could smell the forest which I know associated with Christmas. It also made our house so beautiful, the way the lights flickered and made the ornaments shine just felt even more like Christmas. It was so tempting to touch but the pines were pokey and could almost break the skin, but it wouldn't be Christmas without it. Finally Christmas had come and I was ready to get the gift I have been waiting for, a ukulele. I had made sure that my siblings would catch the hint and get one for me. As I sat with my family waiting to get more presents, a small box was handed to me. It was wrapped up in Christmas wrap, but poorly done with random strips of tape stuck on. I didn't think anything of it until I heard my sister, "This is from Ray and I." My heart sank but I tried to hide it. I gently unwrapped both sides but the weak paper ripped anyway, "Oh! Lotion!" I tried to sound excited. "Open it up, that's not all." I slid out the box and found a tiny ukulele. It was made out of paper and tape was stuck all over it, trying to use all of its strength to keep everything in tact. Next to it was a tiny cut out letter, it had a drawn out stamp and everything. I gently unfolded it and it read "Your ukulele is on the way!"
